Very early warning detection is achieved using air sampling, which identifies extremely low concentrations of smoke before fire conditions develop. Spot-type smoke detectors can also be used for applications where standard warning requirements are .
If a fire does occur, clean agents are discharged to suppress the hazard while remaining safe for electronics and leaving no residue.
In areas where water-based protection is required, fire sprinkler systems utilize pre-action configurations, which limit water discharge to confirmed fire conditions and prevent accidental water damage.

What happens after a clean agent system discharges?
The system must be inspected, cylinders replaced or recharged, and all detection and releasing functions verified before being returned to service.
How does air sampling provide earlier warning than standard detectors?
Standard spot detectors rely on smoke rising to the ceiling, whereas air sampling systems actively draw air through a network of pipes into a laser-based sensing chamber. This method can identify microscopic combustion particles in the incipient stage, allowing facility managers to investigate a potential hazard before a fire becomes visible.
What is the purpose of a pre-action sprinkler configuration in these rooms?
Where water-based protection is required by code or insurance, a pre-action system provides a safeguard against accidental discharge. The system piping remains dry until a confirmed fire condition is detected, at which point the valve opens to allow water into the pipes, ensuring discharge only occurs when it is absolutely necessary.
Does the clean agent system require the room to be sealed?
Yes, per NFPA standards, a clean agent requires a specific concentration to be maintained for a defined hold time to ensure total suppression. Fire Defense performs a room integrity door fan test to identify leaks in cable pass-throughs or partitions that could compromise the effectiveness of the system.
